Crew SC acquires allocation money in trade with Sporting Kansas City

Bernardo Anor

Columbus Crew SC today announced that the club has acquired allocation money from Sporting Kansas City in exchange for midfielder Bernardo Anor. The transaction was Crew SC’s second move during today’s MLS Half-Day Trade Window ahead of Wednesday’s MLS Expansion Draft. Per club and MLS policy, additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“It is always difficult to part ways with a good player, especially one that has been such a positive figure to work with,” said Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. “Unfortunately, the dynamics of the MLS Expansion Draft and salary cap mean that we have to make some difficult roster decisions. In the end, we are happy that Bernardo earned a new contract and will be able to continue his career in MLS.”

Anor spent four seasons in Columbus after being drafted by the Black & Gold in the Third Round (48th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. He recorded 71 appearances and scored 12 goals and three assists in his tenure, including five game-winning goals. Bouncing back from season-ending ACL surgery in 2012, Anor was the club’s OhioHealth Comeback Player of the Year in 2013.
