Crew SC Player Development to host tryouts

Ben Speas vs Houston

Crew SC will continue holding open tryouts for its Player Development teams. Monday, June 1 to Friday, June 5, tryouts will be held for ages 13 and up.

In an effort to create an unparalleled environment for young players, Crew SC Player Development provides a unique soccer experience for boys and girls ages 6 to 19.

Crew SC’s Player Development system offers access to top coaches, an age-specific curriculum focused on developing players, facilities, training and competition. Comprised of the Academy and Player Development teams, Crew SC Player Development is among the nation’s top youth soccer programs. The selection process for all Academy, Pre-Academy and Elite players will occur during the various tryouts.

“The Crew SC Player Development system has proudly contributed to the development of world-class athletes and teammates, and we are committed to providing a first-class youth soccer platform in our community as Ohio’s Major League Soccer team,” said Andy Loughnane, Crew SC President of Business Operations.

Crew SC youth have the opportunity to rise through the ranks of the club’s integrated player development system, one that looks to cultivate talent from the youth ranks through the Academy stages, all the way to the professional level with the first team.

As a charter member of the United States Soccer Development Association, the Academy plays among the top level of competition in the country and is under the leadership of Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. In the past eight years more than 150 players, both men and women, have continued to play at top colleges throughout the country, including Akron, UCLA, Harvard, Michigan, Maryland, Indiana, Ohio State, Ohio Wesleyan and Messiah.

“It’s been an exciting and productive year for our player development system,” said Jeremy Parkins, Senior Director of Player Development. “As we progress forward, our highest priority is to evaluate every level and area of the system thoroughly and add value and improve the experience for all of our players and families.  It is important that we identify ways to work with the soccer communities to improve the sport and player development opportunities, and build Crew SC fans.”

The Crew SC Academy has produced 11 professionals and nine Home Grown players, including current Black & Gold players Wil Trapp, Ben Swanson, Ben Speas, Chad Barson and Matt Lampson. Both Trapp and Swanson have been strong contributors to not just Crew SC, but on U.S National Teams as well. Trapp earned his first senior cap with the U.S. Men’s National Team this past January, while Swanson recently finished a training camp in Medugorje, Bosnia & Herzegovina for the U-18 National Team.
