Crew SC Academy heading to Texas for Generation adidas Cup

Crew SC Academy Team

The best academy teams around the country will face off with each other and international competition in the Champions Division of the 2016 Generation adidas Cup in Frisco, Texas from March 18 to 26. Among them is the Crew SC Academy U-15/16 team, which heads to Major League Soccer’s annual elite youth tournament this Thursday.

Crew SC will face the San Jose Earthquakes at 4 p.m. ET Friday, Spain’s Villareal CF at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, and Universidad de Chile at either 4:30 or 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22. For updates from the Generation adidas Cup, follow the team on Twitter at @CrewSCAcademy.

Crew SC qualified for the prestigious tournament after competing with FC Dallas, Sporting Kansas City, Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire throughout two qualifying events in October and February.

By finishing second behind Dallas in the Central Region, the Academy team earned a shot at competing for the Championship Division title. Other MLS Academy teams include Toronto FC, New York Red Bulls, LA Galaxy and San Jose. They’ll be joined by six teams from across the globe, including defending champion River Plate, Valencia CF, Villareal, Aspire Academy, Universidad de Chile and Mexico's U-17 national team.

The Generation adidas Cup focuses on player development and showcases the best teams in the country and the future stars of MLS. After last year’s participation in the 2015 event, two Academy players, Jensen Lukacsko and Sean Zawadzki, were selected to represent Crew SC at the adidas esp elite soccer program in Los Angeles.
