Potential opponents announced for Crew SC’s Open Cup Fourth Round match at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium

The Fourth Round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup has been drawn and potential match-ups are in place for Crew SC to host in its first match of the tournament. Crew SC will face the winner of the Tampa Bay Rowdies (North American Soccer League) against FC Cincinnati (United Soccer League), with the Black & Gold hosting the contest at Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15.


Tampa Bay and Cincinnati will square-off in St. Petersburg, Florida on Wednesday, June 1 in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup. Cincinnati entered the tournament in the Second Round, where it defeated Indy Eleven NPSL 2-1 on Wednesday, while the Rowdies will begin their 2016 Open Cup journey on June 1.


Tampa Bay is a member of the NASL and plays its home games at Al Lang Stadium. Six matches into the spring season, the Rowdies rank sixth out of 11 teams with a 2-1-3 record. They captured the NASL championship in 2012.


Cincinnati is in its first year of play in the USL. The club currently sits in second place in the Eastern Conference with a 5-2-2 record. It is coached by former U.S. Men’s National Team player John Harkes.


Crew SC holds a 22-15-2 record in the U.S. Open Cup. The Black & Gold were crowned U.S. Open Cup champions on October 24, 2002, when they topped the LA Galaxy 1-0 at MAPFRE Stadium.
