Afful plays full 90 in World Cup Qualifier vs. Egypt

Crew SC defender Harrison Afful and the Ghanaian National Team lost 2-0 to Egypt in a 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match on Sunday. The game was played at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria, Egypt.


Afful started and played the full 90 minutes for the Black Stars, earning his 66th international cap all-time.

With the outcome, the Black Stars now sit in third in the Confederation of African Football Group E with one point in their first two games. Egypt leads the group with six points, Uganda sits in second with four and Congo rounds out the group with zero.


Ghana has four matches left to play in the Third and Final Round of Qualifying for Russia 2018. Only the top team from each group will advance to the World Cup.


Crew SC midfielder Justin Meram is also overseas on international duty with Iraq. The Lions of Mesopotamia are set to play United Arab Emirates in a World Cup Qualifier tomorrow at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The match is scheduled to kick off at 10:20 a.m. ET.
