Tuesday served as the deadline for potential expansion clubs to submit their bids to Major League Soccer — with the League having expressed its intention to add four more expansion teams in the coming years for a total of 28 clubs.
With a total of 12 submissions entered this week, Columbus Crew SC Investor-Operator and Chairman Anthony Precourt provided his thoughts on the League's exciting time with Sports Illustrated's Brian Straus:
"These 12 expansion applications come from all over the United States, and it is exciting to see several markets close to Columbus in the applicant pool, including Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis and St. Louis. Our Crew SC supporters have a chance to see some healthy new regional rivalries develop within MLS in the coming years."
