New York Red Bulls 1-0 win vs. Colorado Rapids

The Red Bulls still sit atop in the East after their 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids at Red Bull Arena. It seems the Red Bulls have had their opponents to thank in their first two games this season after a pair of own goals secured their victories in their matches against Atlanta United and Colorado. Rapids defender Eric Miller directed a cross into his own net in the 45th minute. If it hadn’t been for the return of Tim Howard, the Colorado Rapids may have faced a bigger deficit.

Chicago Fire 2-0 win vs. Real Salt Lake

The Chicago Fire stayed hot in their chilly home opener with a quick 2-0 victory over RSL. Nemanja Nikolic opened his MLS account and put his team ahead early on with a goal in the 11th minute. Shortly after, Arturo Alvarez also opened his MLS account and solidified Chicago’s win with another goal in the 15th minute. Real Salt Lake had a slow reaction to the quick pair of Chicago goals and were unable to find the back of the net.

Atlanta United FC 6-1 win at Minnesota United FC

Despite a snow-covered field at TCF Bank Stadium, Atlanta United lit fire with a 6-0 win over Minnesota United. Atlanta opened the scoring early with a goal by Josef Martinez in the 3rd minute. Martinez didn’t stop there, however. The Atlanta forward found the back of the net again in the 27th minute and the 75th minutes. A brace from Miguel Almiron made certain of Atlanta’s victory. The home team was able to get a notch on the scoreboard with a first half penalty kick by Kevin Molino in the 39th minute.

New York City FC 4-0 win vs. D.C. United

New York solidified their victory before the end the first half against D.C. United with the help of Rodney Wallace and David Villa. Wallace side volleyed the ball into the back of the net in the 8th minute and then assisted Villa’s goal in the 28th minute. He also found the back of the net again in the 75th minute. Villa has scored six goals and three assists in the past six games against D.C. United. With a calm finish by Maximiliano Moralez in the 39th minute, New York had it in the bag by halftime.

Philadelphia Union 2-2 draw vs. Toronto FC

Both teams lost their starting strikers to injury but still played to a 2-2 draw. Philadelphia’s Jay Simpson scored early in the first half with an 11th minute snap header. Toronto’s Jozy Altidore returned fire with a penalty kick down the middle in first half stoppage time. Two quick goals from both teams in the second half kept things tied up for the remainder of the match.

Montreal Impact 2-2 draw vs. Seattle Sounders FC

Both teams have recovered from their opening-week losses with a 2-2 draw. Montreal took control of the first half with goals in the 17th minute by Matteo Mancosu and in the 51st minute by Ignacio Piatti. Seattle tied things up second half with goals in the 83rd minute by Nicolas Lodeiro and in the 94th minute by Will Bruin
