This will be the first Trillium Cup match meeting of the year in the regular-season series that determines the victor of the trophy. The two teams will play again on May 10 at MAPFRE Stadium before a May 26 clash at BMO Field. Columbus has won the Trillium Cup six out of the nine years it has been contested. The two clubs began battling for the trophy during the 2008 campaign and the Black & Gold were victorious in the regular-season series for the first three years of Trillium Cup action.

Saturday’s match will be the 29th all-time meeting between the Great Lakes rivals. Crew SC currently holds an overall 12-6-10 record against the Reds and an 8-3-4 against them at MAPFRE Stadium.

The Black & Gold are also undefeated at MAPFRE Stadium in the 2017 MLS regular season. They played to a 1-1 draw against Chicago in their opening match on March 4, and they secured two back-to-back wins against Portland on March 25 and Orlando on April 1.

Toronto FC played to a 2-2 draw against Atlanta United in Week 6. Goals were scored by Sebastian Glovinco (20’) and Justin Morrow (44’). Since the 2015 season, Justin Morrow has scored nine goals during regular season, the most of any defender in that time period.
