PREVIEW | Crew SC travels to BMO Field to open the 2018 MLS season

Wil Trapp vs. Toronto

Columbus Crew SC will open the 2018 campaign with a trip back to BMO Field on March 3rd to take on Toronto FC in a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM ET and the match is set to be televised locally on ABC-6, Spectrum Sports and BCSN2.

Toronto is coming off of its first MLS Cup title run in club history after earning a league-best 69-points during the 2017 regular season. Crew SC finished 5th in the Eastern Conference with 54 points before advancing past Atlanta United and New York City FC in the playoffs.

Toronto FC’s preseason consisted of a home-and-home series in the CONCACAF Champions League against the Colorado Rapids. During the first match, Toronto came away with a 2-0 victory with goals from Jonathan Osorio and Sebastian Giovinco. They cemented the aggregate win at home on Tuesday with a 0-0 draw at BMO Field.

Crew SC starts the season after registering a 4-1-0 record in the preseason, which included a sweep in the Carolina Challenge Cup that resulted in their second-straight title. Crew SC’s victories came against Atlanta United (3-1), Charleston Battery (2-1), and Minnesota United (2-0). During the tournament, new forward Gyasi Zardes scored four goals, including a brace against the Battery.
