In Week 14 Major League Soccer action, Columbus Crew SC earned a point at home, completing the night by lifting the Trillium Cup for the first time since 2015.
Higuain was a key component to the draw, scoring a goal and notching an assist for Crew SC to rise up from a three goal deficit. Higuain sent a corner kick to Gyasi Zardes, who headed it to the back of the net to get Columbus on the board. Higuain scored the equalizer for Crew SC in the 90th minute after Zardes was fouled inside the box. Higuain stepped up to take the penalty kick and cemented the comeback with a strike to the left corner of the net.
Higuain leads Crew SC in all-time penalty kick goals with Saturday’s goal being his 19th. In addition, Higuain has more penalty-kick goals than anyone in the MLS since he joined the League in 2012. Since joining the club in 2012, the Argentinian has cemented himself amongst Black & Gold legends, reaching one of his most notable milestones this season when he joined the exclusive MLS 50-goals, 50-assists club.
With Saturday’s draw, Columbus is now unbeaten in eight games — tying the league’s longest unbeaten streak for this season.
The Black & Gold kicks off the 2018 U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday June 6 at MAPFRE Stadium. The matchup against the Chicago Fire begins at 7 p.m. ET. Returning to the regular season, Crew SC hosts the New York Red Bulls on Saturday June 9 at 5 p.m. ET at MAPFRE Stadium.
