It is a simple equation for Columbus Crew SC as the Black & Gold can seal a berth in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs with a road victory over Orlando City SC on Sunday, Oct. 21.
However, two additional scenarios outside of Crew SC’s control could provide Columbus with its fourth postseason appearance in the last five seasons, and it deals with our "friends" up north. Should the Montreal Impact draw OR lose to Toronto FC on Oct. 21 at Stade Saputo, the Black & Gold will qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs regardless of their result against Orlando City.
Crew SC defeated Orlando, 3-2, at MAPFRE Stadium on July 21 and is 4-0-1 against the Lions in their last five match-ups, including a 2-0-1 mark on the road.
As for the other potential playoff-clinching scenario, Toronto is 3-2-0 against Montreal in the last five meetings, as both sides have split the series 1-1 in 2018. Toronto last faced Montreal on August 25 at home, coming out with a 3-1 victory. Toronto has lost four of its last six, including a current two-match skid, while Montreal comes in 3-1-1 in its last five matches.
