Sosa, Valenzuela nominated for League's Newcomer of the Year Award

Columbus Crew SC midfielder Eduardo Sosa and defender Milton Valenzuela have been nominated among a list of 34 MLS players for the League's Newcomer of the Year Award.

Sosa, Valenzuela nominated for League's Newcomer of the Year Award -

Sosa, a 22-year-old Venezuelan who signed with Crew SC from Zamora FC on January 9, 2018, has made three starts in 10 appearances this season, totaling one goal and one assist. Sosa's lone goal came in his first career start for Crew SC against Real Salt Lake on June 30.


Valenzuela, a 20-year-old Argentinian who signed with Crew SC on loan as a Young Designated Player from Newell's Old Boys on January 26, 2018, has made 28 starts in 29 appearances as an everyday left back for Columbus.


This season, Valenzuela has totaled five assists and one goal, and was recently listed as No. 12 on MLS' 22 under 22 list highlighting the top young players in the League.


Players, technical staffers (technical directors, GMs, and coaches) and a select group of national and regional media began the voting process on Monday, Oct. 15, and the award finalists will be announced on Oct. 31.
