Columbus Crew SC forward Gyasi Zardes became the first player in Club history to win Major League Soccer's Comeback Player of the Year following the official announcement on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
As part of the conversation, Zardes sat down with the Club to discuss his career-best year, what this award means to him, and what perspective he gained on the path through injury and recovery.
After suffering a season-ending injury in August of 2016 while playing for the LA Galaxy, Zardes underwent knee surgery in early 2017. The forward went on to make 24 regular-season appearances for the Galaxy that season, scoring two goals before suffering another injury in October of that year.
Zardes, 27, led Crew SC in 2018 by scoring a career-high 19 goals in regular-season action, more than any other American player in MLS.
