Columbus Crew SC defeated fellow MLS side Los Angeles Football Club, 4-2, in a friendly on Monday, Feb. 4 at Banc of California Stadium. The match was Columbus’ third preseason friendly of 2019, following Thursday’s 1-0 win over Liga MX side Tijuana.
LAFC took a lead in the sixth minute of the match, as a shot by Alejandro Guido took a deflection to put the hosts ahead. In the 38th minute, Patrick Mullins leveled the score as he pounced on a loose ball inside the box to make it 1-1.
The second half saw Crew SC make a few substitutions, with Luis Argudo, Justin Meram and JJ Williams taking the field to begin the second stanza. LAFC regained the lead in the 48th minute of the contest, as Lee Nguyen made it 2-1.
Columbus responded through JJ Williams, who recorded a brace to level and then put the Crew ahead 3-2. Justin Meram put the result beyond doubt in the last 10 minutes of the match, as he went on a breakaway before making it 4-2.
Next, the Club returns to Central Ohio before departing for Charleston, S.C. for the Carolina Challenge Cup, which kicks off against the Chicago Fire on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. ET at MUSC Health Stadium. For fans wishing to attend the match, gates open at 3:30 p.m. ET.
