CREW SC OPENS 24TH REGULAR-SEASON AT HOME


Columbus Crew SC is set to open its 24th season in MLS on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls at MAPFRE Stadium. The match is set to kickoff at 4:30 p.m. ET and marks the 70th all-time regular-season meeting between the Red Bulls and Columbus.


THE CREW BEGINS NEW ERA


On January 1, 2019, Major League Soccer announced that an agreement had been reached with the Haslam and Edwards families to become Investor-Operators of Columbus Crew SC. The Club appointed Tim Bezbatchenko as President and Caleb Porter as Head Coach on January 4, helping round out the new-look Crew. Caleb's coaching staff will be made up of assistant coaches Mike Matkovich, Matt Reis, Pablo Moreira and Ben Cross.


CREW SC UNDEFEATED AGAINST THE NEW YORK RED BULLS AT MAPFRE STADIUM SINCE 2015


The Crew is undefeated at home against the New York Red Bulls since in regular-season action since 2015. The Black & Gold last lost against the Red Bulls during a contest at MAPFRE Stadium on March 28, 2015. Since then, Columbus has posted a home record of 4-0-2 against the New York Red Bulls across all competititons, outscoring the Red Bulls 10-5.


THE CREW GOES UNDEFEATED DURING 2019 PRESEASON


Columbus Crew SC finished its 2019 preseason with an undefeated record of 3-0-3. The Crew’s preseason began on January 23 and ended on February 23. In January, the Black & Gold drew against Japanese topflight side Vissel Kobe 0-0 (January 28) and defeated Liga MX side Club Tijuana 1-0 (January 31) in a closeddoor scrimmage. During the month of February, Crew SC defeated Los Angeles FC 4-3 in a closed-door scrimmage (February 4), before drawing 1-1 against the Chicago Fire (February 16) and the Charleston Battery (February 20) ahead of a 3-0 win over MLS Expansion side FC Cincinnati (February 23).


CREW SC WINS CCC FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR


With their 3-0 win over FC Cincinnati this past Saturday, the Crew won the 2019 edition of the Carolina Challenge Cup in Charleston, South Carolina. Notably, the result marked the third consecutive year in which the Black & Gold won the preseason tournament, having previously won the Carolina Challenge Cup in 2017 and 2018. With the result, Crew SC is now one of two teams to have won the tournament three years in a row, with the other team being D.C. United (2010-2012).
