U.S. Soccer today named Columbus Crew SC Homegrown Player Aboubacar Keita as part of the 20-player roster for the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team’s final training camp before this summer’s FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Under head coach Tab Ramos, the camp will consist of two friendlies against fellow U-20 World Cup participants, beginning with France on Friday, March 22 (10 a.m. ET), followed by Japan on Monday, March 25 (7 a.m. ET)
Keita, 18, joined the Crew First Team as a Homegrown Player on January 22, 2019. A product of Crew SC Academy, Keita made 43 appearances (42 starts) for Crew SC Academy from 2016-2018 before playing for the University of Virginia. Keita started every match for the University of Virginia in 2018, making 17 appearances (all starts) and scoring one goal.
With the draw for the 2019 U-20 World Cup already set, this camp stands as the final opportunity for players to leave a strong impression before the final 21-player roster is decided ahead of the World Cup, which will be hosted by Poland. Drawn into Group D, the U.S. kicks off World Cup play on May 24 against Ukraine, before facing Nigeria on May 27 and Qatar on May 30.
Crew SC returns to action against FC Dallas on Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m. ET at MAPFRE Stadium. The match will be broadcast on FOX Sports Ohio and 97.1 FM The Fan. Followers can also tune into the live Spanish audio stream at www.ColumbusCrewSC.com.
