CREW SC'S PASSING: BY THE NUMBERS


Through nine matches in the 2019 MLS regular season, Crew SC:

  • Leads the League in passes (4,803) and successful passes (3,933).
  • Is third in MLS when it comes to passes into the final third (563), behind only the New England Revolution (689) and the New York Red Bulls (573).
  • Has the fourth-highest passing completion rate (81.89 percent) among teams that have attempted 4,000 or more passes behind only FC Dallas (83.83 percent), Los Angeles Football Club (83.65 percent) and Seattle Sounders FC (82.8 percent).
  • Is third in the League in passes in the opponent’s half (2,374) - trailing only the New England Revolution (2,455) and Los Angeles FC (2,412).
  • Are fourth in MLS in successful passes in the opponent’s half (1,762), trailing only Los Angeles FC (1,865), the LA Galaxy (1,782) and Seattle Sounders FC (1,774).


BLACK & GOLD TRIO AMONG PASSING LEADERS IN MLS


In addition to leading MLS in passes and successful passes as a team, Crew SC boasts multiple players among the leaders in several individual passing categories. Three of the top-five players in the passes and successful passes categories are Crew players, with

(second in passes, third in successful passes),

(third in passes, fifth in successful passes) and

(fifth in passes, fourth in successful passes) among the leaders.

WILLIAMS REACHES 150TH MLS REGULAR-SEASON APPEARANCE


With his appearance in Wednesday’s home contest against D.C. United, defender
Josh Williams
recorded his 150th MLS regular-season appearance (132nd start). Williams played the entire 90 minutes, making one tackle, registering 54 touches, completing 42 passes and leading the team with a 95.2 percent passing accuracy during the contest. The defender originally played for Crew SC from 2010-2014 before rejoining the Black & Gold prior to the start of the 2017 season. To date, Williams has made 118 regular-season appearances (104 starts) for the Crew, scoring eight goals and recording four assists.

JIMENEZ REACHES 100TH MLS REGULAR-SEASON START


In his start at right-back,
Hector Jimenez
registered his 100th MLS regular-season start (153rd appearance) during Wednesday’s match against D.C. United. Jimenez played the entire 90 minutes, recording two shots (one on target), registering 95 touches and attempting 68 passes during the contest. Jimenez joined Crew SC prior to the 2014 season after three seasons with the LA Galaxy. To date, he has made 110 appearances and 72 starts while wearing the Black & Gold. Overall, Jimenez has scored five goals and provided 21 assists since joining MLS in 2011.

FEDERICO HIGUAIN: ORCHESTRATING CREW SC’S PLAY


Through nine starts in the 2019 MLS regular season,
Federico Higuain
is tied with D.C. United’s Wayne Rooney, the San Jose Earthquakes’ Cristian
Espinoza and Seattle Sounders FC’s Nicolas Lodeiro for fourth-most goal-scoring chances created (21). Similarly, Higuain has been proficient when playing in the attacking half, as he ranks third in the categories of passes into the final third (110) and passes ending in the final third (203), while also ranking fourth in passes in the opponent’s half (356) and fifth in successful passes in the opponent’s half. In 2019, Federico Higuain has made nine regular-season appearances (all starts), providing three assists.

HIGUAIN: JOINT REGULAR-SEASON ASSIST LEADER FOR CREW SC


Federico Higuain is currently tied with Robert Warzycha on the Crew’s list of all-time regular-season assist leaders and needs only one more helper to overtake Warzycha as the outright all-time leader. Notably, Higuain’s assist against New England on April 6 was also his 20th game-winning assist in regular-season action, extending his lead as Columbus’ all-time regular-season leader in this category. Since joining the Black & Gold in 2012, Higuain has made 188 regular-season appearances (180 starts), scoring 54 goals to go with his 61 assists.

PEDRO SANTOS AMONG TOP DRIBBLERS IN MLS


Midfielder
Pedro Santos
is among the top dribblers in MLS thus far in the 2019 MLS regular season. Santos is currently tied with New York City FC's Alexandru Mitrita for third-most attempted dribbles (21), behind only Minnesota United FC's Darwin Quntero (22) and Los Angeles FC's Latif Blessing and Carlos Vela (23 each). Additionally, the Portuguese midfielder ranks second in attempted dribbles (44), behind only Quintero (50).
