RECAP: Crew SC shut out by Loons

In the Club's first match at the new Allianz Field, Columbus Crew SC (5-8-1, 16 pts.) fell 1-0 to Minnesota United FC (5-4-3, 18 pts.) on Saturday, May 18.

The Black & Gold did well to keep the scoreline at zero in the 21st minute when goalkeeper Jon Kempin dove to save a low shot from Darwin Quintero. Saturday's match marked Kempin's debut for Crew SC in the 2019 regular season.

In the 35th minute, the Crew had their best opportunity of the night when midfielder Federico Higuain hit a shot from outside of the 18-yard box that ricocheted off of the post.

In an overall disjointed match for both sides, the Loons scored the game-winner in the 70th minute when Ethan Finlay finished a ball into an open net off a headed ball from Brent Kallman.

The defeat marks Crew SC's first loss to Minnesota since the Loons joined MLS in 2017. Also notably, midfielder David Accam made his first start for the Black & Gold, playing 87 minutes before subbing out for Luis Argudo

Up next, Crew SC travels to Colorado to take on the Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, May 25 at 9 p.m. ET.
