Luis Diaz (pronounced: loo-EES DEE-as) was recently named the Torneo Clausura 2019’s Best Under-21 Player by UNAFUT. He was also nominated for the Torneo Clausura 2019’s Best Player Award.
The 20-year-old played for Club Sport Herediano of Costa Rica’s First Division from 2018-2019, where fellow Costa Rican countryman and Crew SC teammate Waylon Francis played from 2012-2013.
Diaz won the Torneo Apertura 2018 with Herediano. Previously, he had won the Segunda Division 2016-2017 title with Municipal Grecia FC.
He started for Herediano in two 2019 Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 matches against Atlanta United, helping Herediano win the first match 3-1.
Diaz was named to Costa Rica’s 40-man provisional roster for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup.
