In their first-ever MLS regular-season meeting, Columbus Crew SC came back to draw FC Cincinnati 2-2 on Saturday, August, 10 at MAPFRE Stadium.
Cincinnati struck first in the 16th minute when Darren Mattocks headed home a corner kick from Victor Ulloa. The MLS-expansion side then doubled its lead in the 23rd minute when Emmanuel Ledesma finished a slotted ball from Roland Lameh.
Crew SC responded before the halftime whistle in the 45th minute when forward Gyasi Zardes converted a penalty after suffering a foul from inside the box. The goal marked Zardes' ninth goal of the season and his second penalty kick tally.
The Black & Gold leveled the match in the 62nd minute when Pedro Santos received a pass from Wil Trapp, turned, and ripped a shot from outside of the box that floated into the top-left corner. The goal marked Santos' eighth goal of the season and Trapp's third assist.
Late into the match, Crew SC nearly scored the game-winner two times but both hit off of the crossbar.
Also notably, midfielder Youness Mokhtar made his debut for Columbus and tallied two shots when he subbed on for Luis Diaz in the 54th minute.
Up next, Crew SC remain at home as they take on Toronto FC on Saturday, August 17 at MAPFRE Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET.
