Columbus Crew SC's Wil Trapp and Gyasi Zardes receive international call-ups

COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew SC today announced that midfielder Wil Trapp and forward Gyasi Zardes have received international call-ups from the United States Men’s National Team. The U.S. is set to hold a pre-camp at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida from November 2-9 for MLS players who have already completed their seasons. The formal camp for the U.S. Men’s National Team begins on November 10, ahead of a pair of Concacaf Nations League group stage matches against Canada and Cuba.

The United States is slated to face Canada on Friday, November 15 at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida, before traveling to face Cuba on Tuesday, November 19 at Truman Bodden Stadium in George Town, Cayman Islands. The U.S. is in League A, Group A of the Concacaf Nations League alongside Canada and Cuba. Currently, the Stars and Stripes are in second place with three points, behind Canada (nine points) and ahead of Cuba (zero points). The group winners from League A will advance to the Knockout Round, where a semifinal and final will be played to crown the 2019-2020 Concacaf Nations League champion.

Crew SC captain Wil Trapp has earned 20 caps for the U.S. Men’s National Team. He earned his first cap for the Stars and Stripes on January 28, 2015 in a friendly against Chile, entering as a second-half substitute. The midfielder most recently started for the U.S. in a friendly against Mexico (September 6, 2019). In 2019, Trapp made 28 regular-season appearances (26 starts) and provided four assists for the Black & Gold. 

Forward Gyasi Zardes has earned 54 caps with the U.S. Men’s National Team, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists. Zardes made his debut for the U.S. in a friendly against Chile on January 28, 2015, and he scored his first goal for the Stars and Stripes on June 5, 2015 against the Netherlands. The forward most recently featured for the U.S. in a Concacaf League of Nations group stage match against Canada (October 15, 2019). This year, Zardes scored 13 goals and provided two assists in 28 regular-season appearances (all starts) to win the 2019 Crew SC Golden Boot as the team’s top scorer.

Crew SC’s current roster features seven players that have received a senior National Team call-up in the last 12 months: Harrison Afful, Luis Diaz, Waylon Francis, Jonathan Mensah, Eloy Room, Wil Trapp and Gyasi Zardes.
