This week's LampStrong Hero of the Match is Billy Reed, and as part of Kick Childhood Cancer Month in partnership with No Child Fights Cancer Alone (NC4K), read more about Billy's fight with Synovial Sarcoma.
Billy's Story
Billy was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma in his jaw just over two years ago.
He underwent chemotherapy, surgery, and facial reconstruction at The James Cancer Center and radiation to the tumor site at Rainbow Babies in Cleveland, living almost four hours from home for over two months. He was deemed to be cancer-free after radiation, but was soon diagnosed with metastatic disease in his lungs. He had three nodules in his lungs, which he underwent radiation for. His last PET scan showed he had no obvious evidence of disease and is taking a new chemo treatment to try to keep the cancer at bay.
We spend a lot of time at the Ronald McDonald House in Columbus, where Billy’s family and friends regularly take donations of much-needed items.
He is now starting his senior year of high school online and living his best life, and recently Billy found out that he has been accepted to West Virginia University!
About the LampStrong Foundation
Sophia is the third LampStrong Hero of the Match this month. Starting in 2014, the LampStrong Foundation was founded by current Columbus Crew and former Ohio State University Goalkeeper and Stage IV Hodgkin Lymphoma Survivor Matt Lampson.
Lampson started the organization with the goal of providing difference-making financial, emotional, and motivational support to cancer patients and families in all the stages of cancer treatment and recovery and to fund proven cancer researchers.
Now in its seventh year, the Kick Childhood Cancer campaign aims to find better cures for all types of childhood cancer, and now more than ever, provide support to one of the most vulnerable populations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
