The MLS SuperDraft 2021 presented by adidas will be held at 2 pm ET on Jan. 21 with Columbus Crew SC holding the 27th, 52nd, and 58th overall picks while expansion club Austin FC is set to select first overall.
The event will again be held virtually and the first round can be watched on ColumbusCrewSC.com, MLSsoccer.com, the MLS App, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube as clubs make their selections. Rounds two and three will not be streamed but will be tracked live via the MLSsoccer.com's SuperDraft tracker.
The 2021 SuperDraft will have three rounds, with Austin picking first in each round. Clubs will then make picks in reverse order of the 2020 regular season standings and taking into account performance in the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs, with Columbus holding the final first-round selection (27th).
The Crew's next pick, the 25th selection in the Second Round (52nd overall), was acquired from Minnesota via trade on February 20, 2020 (MLS rights to Aaron Schoenfeld). The Black & Gold's final pick, the second selection in the Third Round (58th overall) was acquired from D.C. United via trade on Jan. 8, 2021 (Jon Kempin).
Players eligible for selection include college seniors, Generation adidas signings and those who have waived their college eligibility by competing in a domestic professional league. The full list of draft-eligible players is available here.
After the SuperDraft, pre-signed seniors, Generation adidas players and select additional draftees will join their MLS clubs for the 2021 preseason. Others may continue to compete for their college team before reporting to their MLS club in late May.
