Columbus Crew host English Premier League’s Aston Villa for Leagues Cup Showcase on Saturday, July 27 

COLUMBUS –The Columbus Crew will host Aston Villa Football Club at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 at Lower.com Field as part of the Leagues Cup Showcase. The Crew, who earned a bye into the 2024 League’s Cup Round of 32 after winning their third MLS Cup in 2023, will prepare for this summer’s official Concacaf competition in the international showcase with Aston Villa, which has claimed seven League championships and seven FA Cups in its history.

Crew STMs will have the first opportunity to acquire tickets, while Black & Gold Next Members will receive special access to tickets during a presale beginning Thursday morning. Tickets will be available to the public on Friday, March 1.

“Aston Villa is a historic English Premier League club that is in great form this year, and we have a special opportunity to host this international match in front of our supporters thanks to our Leagues Cup bye into the Round of 32 following our 2023 MLS Cup championship,” said President and General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “The Crew are dedicated to helping take Columbus to the world through the global game of soccer, and we are fortunate to add this match to our 2024 schedule that once again includes competitions featuring international teams during the Concacaf Champions Cup and Leagues Cup.”

“This special competition between Crew and Aston Villa – both founding members of Major League Soccer and the English Premier League – matches up two historic clubs that rank among the top of their respective leagues in championships and are also currently experiencing success on the pitch, as we start the defense our 2023 MLS Cup and Villa is competing for a Champions League berth,” said Haslam Sports Group Chief of Strategy and Development Josh Glessing. “It will be another incredible atmosphere at Lower.com Field that further highlights Columbus is a Soccer City, adding to a 2024 home schedule that already includes the 2024 MLS All-Star Game, multiple international tournaments, SheBelieves Cup and more events that bring our community together through sports.”

The Black & Gold’s Leagues Cup Showcase match against Villa is part of an exciting summer stretch further showcasing that Columbus is a Soccer City. The home of the 2023 MLS Cup champions will also welcome elite soccer players and fans from across the world during a week-long celebration of the global game capped by the 2024 MLS All-Star Game, presented by Target, in Columbus on Wednesday, July 24.

The Crew possess a 13-6-3 all-time record against international clubs outside of league and tournament play. The Club most recently defeated Costa Rica’s Deportivo Saprissa 2-0 at Historic Crew Stadium on July 3, 2018. The Black & Gold most recently faced an English Premier League team during an international friendly in 2014, a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace F.C. on July 23. Dating back to 1997, the Club as passionate advocates for the global game has competed in friendly matches with teams hailing from Argentina, Chile, England, Germany, Guatemala, Mexico and Spain.
