With multiple open roster spots due to the injuries of Rich Balchan, Tommy Heinemann, and William Hesmer, the Crew was able to make a splash in the international market by signing Costa Rican forward Jairo Arrieta from Saprissa. Arrieta will join the club when his contract expires in late May and will be available to play on June 30 when the Black & Gold hosts Real Salt Lake.

The forward will not be a designated player for the Crew, but hopes to be one of Major League Soccer's top scorers. The Columbus Dispatch's Adam Jardy got in touch with the scoring threat over the phone yesterday.

Following his brace against Houston last week, midfielder Eddie Gaven garnered MLS Team of the Week honors. Chad Marshall was listed as Honorable Mention.

Speaking of Marshall, he's had three different partners in central defense this season. The Crew captain continues to be a leader, mentoring young players like Eric Gehrig and his latest partner, Josh Williams.

Aaron Schoenfeld, who made is fifth appearance in as many games, has provided a big target in the box for the Black & Gold. Who would've thought the 6' 3" rookie was only 5' 8" in his junior year of high school? (MLSsoccer.com)

Finally, new Brand Ambassador Frankie Hejduk made the podcast rounds this week, appearing on US Soccer's podcast and the MLS Extratime Podcast.
