Black & Gold Bullets: December 2

Josh Williams

In case you missed it while filling-up on Holiday fixings and Black Friday deals last week, the Crew announced that it has brought back defender Josh Williams for his fifth season with the club and signed Costa Rican defender Waylon Francis and Worthington Kilbourne High School (Columbus, Ohio) product Matt Wiet. Adam Jardy of The Columbus Dispatch provides his take on some of the recent Black & Gold roster moves.

On Saturday, Real Salt Lake will travel to Sporting Park to take on Sporting Kansas City to battle for the MLS Cup 2013. Grantland’s Graham Parker examines what he believes to be “the most interesting rivalry in the league” as both teams look to cement their place in history with the title on the line.

The rest of MLS is already hard at work trying to bolster rosters and make deeper playoff runs in 2014. From Seattle’s announcement that midfielder Osvaldo Alonzo would become a Designated Player to LA’s signing of ex-Fire midfielder Baggio Husidic, teams have been very active in the weeks leading up to next month’s MLS SuperDraft in Philadelphia. Ives Galarcep of Goal.com offers a closer look specifically at six playoff teams from 2013 and their wish lists this offseason. Galarcep explains why “the upcoming winter will likely make or break their chances of being one of the teams playing in the MLS Cup a year from now.”
