Columbus Crew SC today announced that it has loaned midfielder Romain Gall to its United Soccer League (USL) affiliate, the Austin Aztex. Gall is slated to report to Austin this week ahead of the Aztex' clash on Saturday, July 11 at Real Monarchs SLC. The Black & Gold retain the option to recall Gall at any point while on loan.
"This is a chance for Romain to continue his development by getting match experience with the Aztex," said Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. "Romain continues to progress and we believe game action in a competitive environment in Austin will benefit him."
Gall has made three Major League Soccer regular-season appearances since being signed by Crew SC via weighted lottery on August 7, 2014. His League debut came during a second-half substitution in the Black & Gold's contest vs. Houston at MAPFRE Stadium on August 23, 2014. This season, he made his competitive debut for the club in Orlando for Crew SC's Round of 16 contest in the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 30. He also appeared in the Black & Gold's international friendly against Valencia CF at MAPFRE Stadium on May 27.
Internationally, Gall has represented the United States at the youth level, making his first appearance for the Under-20s in November of 2013. He recently participated in the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, where he was the Golden Boot winner of the tournament with five tallies. Prior to his time with the U-20s, Gall made several appearances with the U-18 squad.
The Black & Gold travel to Canada this weekend for a regular-season clash at Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League finalist Montreal Impact on Saturday, July 11 (8:00 p.m. ET / Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, CD102.5 FM, 103.1 FM La Mega).
