RECAP | Zardes' Gold Cup crown highlights Black & Gold on international duty

Gyasi Zardes

Zardes turned in key performances for the United States Men’s National Team en route to its seventh Gold Cup championship, including the game-winning goal in the semifinals to propel the Stars and Stripes past Qatar.

He played the full 120 minutes in the United States’ thrilling 1-0 victory over Mexico on Sunday night in Las Vegas, becoming the first Crew player to win the Gold Cup since Frankie Hejduk in 2007.

The Crew’s striker continues to make history for the United States. He now stands fifth in USMNT Gold Cup history in caps and goals, while also becoming the second-fastest player to reach double-digit goals and assists for the Stars & Stripes.

Liam Fraser

Fraser earned four caps with Canada in Gold Cup play and helped the Canucks reach the semifinals.

He started and played the full 90 minutes against the United States on July 18.

Derrick Etienne Jr.

With three starts during Gold Cup group play, Derrick Etienne Jr. was a key contributor for Haiti, including recording an assist for the Grenadiers against Canada.

He played all 270 minutes in Haiti’s group stage matches and recorded one goal in two starts during qualifiers.

Kevin Molino

Molino wore the captain’s armband for Trinidad & Tobago against El Salvador and made three appearances for the Soca Warriors during Gold Cup group play action.

In the preliminaries, Molino was massive for Trinidad and Tobago, notching two goals in as many starts.

Luis Diaz

Costa Rica reached the Gold Cup quarterfinals before falling to Canada, with Luis Diaz earning three caps and one start during the tournament for Los Ticos.

He notched an assist in Costa Rica’s win over Guadeloupe.
