Columbus (2020): Berry was chosen by Crew SC with the seventh overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft before signing with the Club on February 27. The forward was sent on loan to United Soccer League Championship side San Diego Loyal SC (August 28) and has scored three goals in seven appearances (all starts) so far with San Diego. Berry has not made an appearance yet this season for the Crew.
Berry made 72 appearances (69 starts) for the University of San Diego while registering 38 goals and 16 assists from 2016-2019. In 2016, his freshman year, he made 18 appearances (15 starts), scoring eight goals and providing one assist while being named to the West Coast Conference (WCC) All-Freshman Team. During his sophomore year, Berry made 17 appearances (all starts), recording five goals and five assists en route to being named to the All-WCC First Team as well as to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Far West Region Second Team.
In 2018, his junior season with the University of San Diego, Berry made 19 appearances (all starts), tallying eight goals and two assists while earning All-WCC First Team and USC All-Far West Region Second Team honors. In his senior year, 2019, the forward made 18 appearances (all starts) while netting 17 goals – tied for second-most goals in a single-season for the University of San Diego – and providing eight assists.
For his performance in the 2019 season, Berry was named the WCC Co-Player of the Year and he was a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann National Player of the Year award. Additionally, the forward also earned a spot in the following teams: the USC All-America Second Team, the All-WCC First Team, the USC Scholar All-American First Team, the USC All-West Region First Team, and the College Sports Information Directors of America All-American Third Team.
Berry is the son of Alberto and Judith. He has one older brother, Alejandro. Growing up, he was a supporter of FC Barcelona. Berry likes to go back to Spain whenever possible and he would like to visit Brazil in the future. His favorite food is paella. He enjoys playing the FIFA video game series. Berry likes to listen to all kinds of music genres, but his favorite is reggaeton. Berry is fluent in English, Spanish and German, and speaks some Catalan.
