Waylon Francis Cost Rica vs. Paraguay

Crew SC defender Waylon Francis has been named to Costa Rica’s 40-player preliminary roster for the historic 2016 Copa America Centenario. Tournament rules require the final 23-player roster to be named by May 20. All the players on the final list must come from the preliminary roster.

The 2016 Copa America Centenario is hosted by the United States and will run from June 3 through June 26. Costa Rica will have some tough tests in Group A of the tournament. La Sele will play Paraguay at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Saturday, June 4, the United States at Soldier Field in Chicago on Tuesday, June 7, and Columbia at NRG Stadium in Houston on Saturday, June 11.

Francis has earned five caps all-time for Costa Rica. He made his first appearance for his country in the group stage of the 2013 Copa Centroamericana in a 2-0 win against Nicaragua on January 20, 2013 en route to Costa Rica’s seventh title, which launched the national side to the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Francis was last called-up by the Ticos in early 2016 ahead of a friendly against Venezuela on February 2. He played 90 minutes in that match.
