Crew SC loans defender Connor Maloney to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on a game-by-game basis

Columbus Crew SC today announced that it has loaned defender Connor Maloney to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the United Soccer League on a game-by-game basis. Per the Right of Recall incorporated in the loan agreement, Crew SC retains the right to recall the player at any point during the MLS regular season, subject to MLS roster compliance guidelines.


Maloney was selected with the fifth pick in the Third Round (49th overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft on January 17, 2017. Before joining the Black & Gold, he played four seasons at Penn State, making 73 appearances (all starts), scoring 26 goals and recording 17 assists during his time there. Maloney was a three-time First Team All-Big Ten Conference player (2016, 2015, 2014).


Led by Head Coach Dave Brandt, the Riverhounds are set to take on Louisville City FC this Saturday, May 20 in a home contest at Highmark Stadium.


Up next for the Black & Gold is a road contest against the New England Revolution this Sunday, May 21 at Gillette Stadium (2:30 p.m. ET / The CW Columbus, Spectrum Sports, BCSN2, CD102.5 FM, La Mega 103.1 FM, English radio stream on ColumbusCrewSC.com).


The two teams have met once already this season, resulting in a 2-0 win for the Black & Gold at MAPFRE Stadium on May 6.
